Jesse Jackson visits Occupy Wall Street, joins human barricade

The Reverend Jesse Jackson made an appearance at Zuccotti Park Monday night, where Occupy Wall Street protesters have been camped out for over a month now. He arrived just in time for a confrontation with the NYPD.

Tents have not been allowed in the camp since the protest began– they are prohibited by a city ordinance. However, a medical tent was erected in the park and protesters began alerting each other that the NYPD planned to remove it.

That’s when Jesse Jackson reportedly emerged from the crowd and confronted officers, according to Animal New York. He then locked arms with protesters in an attempt to protect the tent with a human barricade.

The officers eventually dispersed without removing the tent, prompting a cheer from the crowd.
