Despite the efforts of NYPD and FDNY divers who pulled him from the water, a teenage boy died after falling into the East River.
The 15-year-old boy died Saturday night after falling into the East River, police said.
Officers pulled Justin Smith, from the Upper West Side, out of the frigid water at FDR Drive and East 105th St. after receiving a 911 call at 8:15 p.m.
After attempting CPR, paramedics took Smith to Metropolitan Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
A friend of the boy told 911 he fell into the waters, according to the Daily News.
A classmate told DNAinfo, "He was a nice guy, who was never mean to anyone."
Police are still investigating but say no criminality is suspected. A medical examiner will determine the cause of death.
