People passing through Kenmore Square had more than wonderful walking weather to smirk at this week.
It seems a vandal has painted several crosswalk signals around Kenmore Square so the blinking “Don’t Walk” lights flip off unsuspecting pedestrians.
“We found them on Opening Day,” said Tracey Ganiatsos, spokesperson for the Boston Transportation Department. “We believe someone used a stencil… We thought we got all of them, but obviously we missed a couple.”
On Wednesday, Metro caught up with a few people strolling through the intersection of Beacon and Raleigh Streets, where a few of the birds were blinking freely.
“I definitely laughed a lot when I first saw it. It’s probably not the classiest thing, especially with students being around, but I did think it was funny,” said Emily McCory, a Boston University student. “I’m sure it offends some people when it flashes the middle finger at them.”
Steven Hoddinott, a Cambridge resident who was visiting UBurger with his child said the signals were “pretty harmless, considering some of the things I’ve heard and seen in the city.”
“Being a parent though, yeah it bothers me a little bit, but it’s a college town, you should expect it.”
Ganiatsos said the signals would be cleaned Wednesday evening.
