The sister of a Brooklyn man who lost his life trying to help a friend get off the subway tracks in Queens told media outlets that he was always thinking of others first.


Jose Gomez, 29, was killed late Friday night when he jumped onto the tracks at the 36th Avenue station in Astoria to help his friend Beatriz Briceno, 19. Briceno had lowered herself down from the platform to retrieve her fallen jacket. They were both were hit by a northbound N train. Briceno was in critical condition at Elmhurst Hospital.


“He was like that with all of his friends,” Gomez’s sister Kimberly told the Daily News. “He was always going above and beyond.”


Gomez, who lived in Bushwick, and Briceno who moved to the city a few months ago from Connecticut, reportedly became friends on Facebook.
