Police in Lancaster County have charged a 19-year-old high school student with concealing the death of a child after an infant was discovered in a trash can at her school on Tuesday.

Authorities allege the student at Lancaster's McCaskey East gave birth to the child in a school bathroom, then discarded the male infant in a trash can after unsuccessfully attempting to flush him down a toilet, the Lancaster Intelligencer Journal reports.

It remains unknown whether the baby was stillborn or born alive. An autopsy put the child's age at 27 to 29 weeks, the paper reports.

The paper identifies the student asCherlie Lefleur.
