Temple University will hold a memorial service for Lewis Katz, an alumnus and former University Trustee, on Wednesday, the university announced this morning.
The memorial service for Katz, a 1963 Temple graduate, will take place on Temple’s Main Campus in North Philadelphia at 11 a.m. Wednesday. The service will be held at the Temple Performing Arts Center, which was was formerly called the Baptist Temple, at 1837 N. Broad St.
Katz, 72, was well known for his generosity and philanthropy efforts across the county but especially in Philadelphia. In his honor his fellow member's of the university's Board of Trustees will name Temple’s School of Medicine in his honor. He has served on the university's board since 1998.
Katz died in a plane crash Sunday morning just days after he and H.F. (Gerry) Lenfest successfully bid for controlling interest in the parent company that publishes the Philadelphia Inquirer, Daily News and Philly.com.
