LIRR bans late-night booze

Don’t count on that late-night drink on the LIRR.

The railroad is banning drinks on weekend late-night trains, officials announced today.

The ban will be from midnight to 5 a.m. Friday and Saturday nights, and was announced after workers were attacked, LIRR president Helena Williams said.

Two workers were reportedly attacked by drunk passengers in March.

Williams said the pilot program will go into effect May 14.

Riders will still be able to buy beer at Penn Station, but they will not be allowed to bring their drinks on board.
