Local hair salons get reality TV star treatment, too

Local singers aren’t the only Bostonians being featured on reality TV these days.

Avanti Salon on Newbury Street will be on Bravo’s “Tabatha’s Salon Takeover.’’

In the show, hair expert Tabatha Coffey turns around troubled salons using tough love.

“We were like, ‘Lets see if she can handle a Newbury Street salon, she usually handles smaller salons,’” Avanti owner Alex Iacobacci said. “She came and she was cool.”

Iacobacci’s friend submitted the salon to the show because he thought Iacobacci’s employees were taking advantage of him.

“There’s a big difference,” Iacobacci said. “They take their jobs more seriously now. I think hairdressers sometimes take their job as a hobby and not as a business, because we’re in such a relaxed industry.”

Touch of Elegance Salon & Spa in Tewksbury and West End Salon & Spa in Provincetown will also be seen in the show’s third season, beginning tonight at 10 p.m.
