For worshipers on-the-go, local parishes are prepared this Ash Wednesday.
Several churches are providing drive-by ashes on Wednesday during the busy morning commute, the Herald News reported.
The Rev. John Higginbotham, the head priest of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, along with clergy from Amicable Congregational Church and First Baptist Old Stone Church, will give worshipers ashes without requiring them to leave their vehicles.
"We are trying to get our church outside the four walls of our church building,” Higginbotham said. “We are really trying hard to get the church into the community. ...We are making this an ecumenical event. We have a very strong ecumenical, interfaith movement in Tiverton.”
The holiday serves as the first day of Lent in the Western Christianity, marked by services of penitence.
Ashes, along with hot coffee, will be available from 6:30 a.m. until the end of the morning rush hour, about 9:30 a.m.
