The marathon is scheduled for Sunday, May 5. The course runs along Meadowbrook Parkway between Jones Beach in Wantagh and Eisenhower Park in East Meadow.

Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano reportedly chose not to comment on whether the route might be changed, but promised security would be heightened.

State officials will also reportedly be involved in security preparations, as Meadowbrook is a state-owned highway. [embedgallery id=135622]

The Long Island Marathon saw about 6,600 runners last year. A reported 5,100 have signed up this year.
