Philadelphia police are investigating the shooting death of a man during a robbery in which a backpack was stolen.
The fatal shooting happened in South Philadelphia, at South Eighth and Watkins streets, about 4:30 this morning, 6ABC Action News reports.
The suspect approached the victim and his friend on a bike, demanding the black backpack as he declared a robbery. The suspect fired a gun several times during a struggle for the backpack, according to the report.

The 22-year-old victim was shot in his back. He died at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.
The robber ran east on Watkins Street, abandoning the bike.
Police described the suspect as a black male, 5 feet 3 inches tall. He was wearing a charcoal gray hoodie and black pants.
