A 72-year-old man was punched and knocked to the ground in an apparently random West Village attack on Monday, police said.

A 72-year-old man was knocked to the ground in an apparently random West Village attack on Monday, police said.

 

The victim was punched in the face as he walked past a man waiting in front of 99 Jane Street at around 5:30 p.m., the NYPD said.

 

The man was knocked into a doorway still holding a shopping bag and the attacker fled, surveillance footage shows.

 

Another man, who police said was waiting across the street, ran off with the suspect.

 

The victim was treated for cuts and bruises to his face at an area hospital, police said.

Both suspects are described as black and in their early 20s.
