Man allegedly caught masturbating in downtown Starbucks (UPDATED)

A 30-year-old Quincy man was caught red-handed for allegedly masturbating in front of a woman who sat near him at a downtown Starbucks earlier this week. And he apparently has a history of exposing himself and ejaculating on strangers.

Tyler Grace pleaded not guilty to open and gross lewdness in Boston Municipal Court yesterday. He was ordered held pending a probation violation hearing.

A 25-year-old Allston woman at the School Street Starbucks told police that she noticed Grace fidgeting after he sat in a chair near her in the coffee shop Tuesday afternoon, according to the Suffolk district attorney’s office.

“Grace allegedly smiled at the woman, opened his jacket, and looked downward. The woman looked under the table to see Grace allegedly masturbating. He left the coffee shop after the victim went to speak to a manager,” the district attorney’s office said in a statement.

Police caught up with Grace a short distance away. He told police the woman sat near him and she became disgusted with him, prompting him to leave.

When police searched Grace they found a GPS bracelet on his left ankle, which was ordered as a condition of his probation from an earlier indecent assault conviction.

He is due back in court on the downtown case next month.

Grace has a history of open and gross lewdness.

He was found guilty in May for exposing himself and masturbating at a Brookline library.

The incident took place in 2011. Grace set up his laptop next to a young woman at the library and masturbated. At the time of the incident, authorities said he then stood up and ejaculated on her. However a charge of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (bodily fluid) was dismissed.

Prosecutors in Norfolk County had asked for a three or four year prison sentence, but a judge sentenced Grace to two years, with one year to serve in jail and the rest suspended for five years.

Grace was also arrested in Maine last year where he was charged with indecent conduct for allegedly exposing himself in a library in Lincoln, Maine, according to the Bangor Daily News. The outcome of that case was not immediately clear.
