A man violently and indecently attacked four women in Back Bay late Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning, police said.

Boston police issued a community alert Wednesday afternoon about the attacks.

In the latest incident, which occurred just before 7 a.m. near 294 Commonwealth Ave., a woman walking down the street said a man began to yell at her and she replied, “I don’t have any money.” That’s when the man jumped up and indecently assaulted the woman. When she screamed, the man punched her in the head and then fled on foot toward Massachusetts Avenue.

About six hours earlier, a woman walking near 159 Newbury St. told police that a man came up behind her, indecently assaulted her and then fled.

The other two incidents occurred as the women were walking separately along Dartmouth Street at 10:13 p.m. and 10:24 p.m.

One woman said she could hear the man say something, but pretended not to listen. He then came up from behind her, indecently touched her and fled on foot.

The other woman said she was approaching Beacon Street when the man asked what time it was. She answered him and that’s when he walked up to her, indecently assaulted her and fled.

The women generally described the suspect as a white man in his 20s or 30s and between 5 feet 7 inches and 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighing about 175 pounds and wearing a tan construction-type jacket.

Police are investigating. Anyone with information is asked to call617-343-4400.
