Police are asking for the public’s help to identify a man who they say tried to abduct three teens inside a Downtown Crossing store this weekend.

A surveillance photo of the man was released by police yesterday.

The man approached the teenage boys Saturday afternoon inside the Macy’s and told them he was a police officer.

“I am a cop and I have a car upstairs. I’ll give you a ride home,” the man said, according to police.

The teens asked the man to prove he was a cop by showing his badge. When he refused to show his badge the teens fled the store.

They alerted a police officer and told the officer that the man had been following them for a few hours before he approached them.

Police immediately put out a description of the man, but a search of the area was unsuccessful.

Police described the suspect as a white man about 5 feet 9 inches tall and in his late 20s or early 30s with a slim build.

Anyone with information can call 617-343-4240.
