A man who attacked a woman in Brookline earlier this week was able to avoid police capture by jumping into the Muddy River and floating away.
Brookline police said on Thursday that officers were called to the area of Parkway Road and Brookline Avenue about 9:30 p.m. Monday for an attempted robbery.

A woman told police she was walking to her car when she noticed a man standing nearby. He said something to her and then grabbed her from behind and tried to drag her toward the Muddy River.
A driver passing by who witnessed the attack stopped and tried to help, police said.
That's when the suspect ran toward the river, "dove in and was carried downstream, according to the witness."
Officers searched the area, but couldn't find the man.
