A man drove himself to the hospital early Saturday morning after being shot in West Philadelphia, according to police.

Officers responded shortly after midnight to a report of gunshots near 62nd and Locust streets.

There, they allegedly found numerous shell casings littering the street.

As police secured the scene, they received a second radio call informing them a shooting victim, 38, had walked into Mercy Hospital near 54th Street and Larchwood Avenue, about a mile away.

The victim had been shot three times – once each in the shoulder, chest and stomach.

Police said the man's car, which was parked out front of the hospital, had several bullet holes in the driver's side door and window.

The victim was sedated and rushed to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in critical but stable condition.

There is not yet word on a motive, and no arrests have yet been made.
