A man floating on a raft in Winchendon's Whitney Pond died Saturday after falling into the water and drowning.

According to police, witnesses saw Daniel Pellon, 52, his son and his son's girlfriend floating on inflatable rafts. At some point, Pellon fell out of his raft and was in distress in the water, WCVB reported.
Police were called to the pond about 6 p.m. When officers arrived, they found Daniel R. Pellon, 52, of 260 Spring St., out of the water and being treated by witnesses, according to the Worcester Telegram.
Pellon was taken to Henry Heywood Hospital in Gardner after being treated at the scene by emergency medical personnel, Police Lt. David Walsh told WCVB.
He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
