A waiver trial for a man accused of murdering his Overbrook roommate during an argument ended in a guilty verdict last week.
Renaldo Robichaw, 56, was found guilty of third-degree murder and possession of an instrument of crime for the January 2013 fatal stabbing of Albert Smith, 48, after a waiver trial presided over by Judge Rosemarie DeFino, inside a home the two men shared with one other roommate.
Neighbors testified at trial that Robichaw, whom they knew by the nickname "Squeaky," could be heard screaming threats through the wall separating their rowhouses on the night the murder occurred.
The third roommate testified that he left the home on Monday, Jan. 28, after hearing Robichaw and Smith arguing. When he returned two days later, Robichaw was sitting in his room and Smith's body was in his bedroom.
Robichaw reportedly was wearing a backpack and was trying to flee on bicycle when police arrived at the house and detained him.
Sentencing is scheduled for July 24.
