A man was shot dead inside a car parked in East Mount Airy early this morning.

 

Philadelphia police discovered the man dead from a gunshot wound to the right side of his neck on the 6600 block of Ross Street about 1:45 a.m., according to a police spokeswoman. He was unresponsive when found seated in the driver's seat.

 

 

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:55 a.m.

 

A passerby reported seeing the man slumped over in the car, but police reportedly received no reports of gunfire in the area. Police found bullet fragments in the vehicle, described as a black Nissan Altima.

Police are identifying the victim only as a 28-year-old male at this time. His name is not being released pending notification of his family.

Philadelphia police spokeswoman officer Christine O'Brien did note that the victim was not from the area.
