Man indicted for allegedly shooting cop

The man accused of shooting a cop last week was indicted, prosecutors said today.

Brooklyn District Attorney Charles Hynes said this afternoon that Luis Ortiz, 21, was indicted on one count of attempted murder in the first degree.

He faces a maximum of 25 years to life in prison if convicted.

Cops say that he shot NYPD officer Kevin Brennan Jan. 31 when Brennan, along with other officers, responded to a call reporting shots fired on Bushwick Avenue.

Prosecutors say Ortiz fired one shot at Brennan, striking him in the head. Brennan is expected to recover in what Police Commissioner Ray Kelly called a “miracle.”

The Daily News reports that Brennan, a Giants fan, got a surprise this week — a signed book from Giants coach Tom Coughlin.
