Man shot dead near Dot school

A late-morning shooting near a Dorchester elementary school and polling place left a 23-year-old man dead and put the school into lockdown, according to officials.

The victim, who has not been identified, was shot multiple times on Bowdoin Street just before noon. The John Marshall Elementary School was put into “safe mode,” barring students and teachers from entering or exiting the building. The polling station in the school stayed open.

Boston Public Schools spokesman Matthew Wilder said students “continued learning and likely were unaware that the school was in safe mode.” Classes were dismissed on time, Wilder said.
