One of two would-be carjackers shot a man as he fled his assailants in Philadelphia's Old City section early this morning.
It happened about 2 a.m. near the intersection of Second and Walnut streets, 6ABC Action News reports.
The victim was shot in his back while running from the suspects, who had approached him while he was opening the door to his 2007 Jeep Cherokee. The suspects pistol-whipped the victim before he was able to get away.
The victim, described in the report as being in his 20s, is in stable condition at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, where he was taken in critical condition after finding someone to call 911.
The suspects did not steal the sport-utility vehicle.
Philadelphia police are hoping to learn more about the suspects through surveillance video.
