Man struck, killed by commuter train in Boston

A train leaving South Station just before 6 p.m. on Wednesday struck and killed a man who allegedly walked onto the tracks.

According to MBTA police reports, the victim was in a crouched position and walked in front of the train after it left South Station, heading toward the Fairmount/Readville MBTA Commuter Rail Station.

The train’s engineer told officers he pulled the emergency brake on the train, but was unable to avoid hitting the victim.

According to the report, the victim came out from under the platform of the closed South Bay Commuter Rail Station and went into the path train.
