A Bronx man who fell onto the subway tracks at Union Square late Saturday night survived by lying down in the gap between the rails as a train passed directly over him.

The man, identified as 55-year-old Ralph Mercado, fell onto the northbound R train tracks around 11:30 p.m., police said. With a train bearing down, he laid flat in the track bed just before it roared over him.

A video posted to YouTube by witnessSuzannah Troy shows the immediate aftermath of the frightening incident.

An MTA official peers down into the tracks and shouts, “Don’t move!” before picking up his radio to say, “Person’s alive in the trough, I need power off on two track.”

Mercado was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.
