A man attempted to set the Masonic Temple Lodge on fire Monday evening.
According to the Boston Fire Department, authorities were called to the lodge 186 Tremont St. about 7:30 p.m. on Monday for an attempt-to-burn incident. Witnesses told police an adult man had entered the building and sprayed lighter fluid onto some furniture in a seating area, then tried to ignite it.
A security guard was able to tackle and detain the man until Boston police officers arrived and placed him under arrest. The man, whose name has not yet been released, will be charged with attempting to burn a place of worship. He is expected to appear in court Tuesday.
There were no reported injuries at the scene. WHDH reportedthat a meeting was taking place inside and most people were unaware of the incident until they came down to the lobby.
