Manhunt underway in Dorchester after troopers assaulted

Dozens of police officers and state troopers are conducting a manhunt in and around Dorchester right now after state police troopers were assaulted there this morning.

State police said they are searching with Boston police for the suspect.

The search has caused five Boston Public Schools in the area to go into safe mode out of an “abundance of caution,” according to the school system. Safe mode means no one can enter or exit the building, but teaching continues as normal.

However that was expected to be lifted at about 11:30 a.m.

Troopers tried to stop the suspect as he was driving near the Boston and Quincy line. Police said the driver struck the troopers and shots were fired, but it was unclear by which person, according to the Globe.

News footage from helicopters in the area shows police searching sheds and other areas in the backyards of Dorchester homes along Dyer Street.
