The state’s unemployment rate climbed to over 7 percent for the first time this year, according to data released Thursday.

Unemployment in Massachusetts for July hit 7.2 percent, according to the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development. The preliminary figures are based on data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The jobless rate is up 0.4 percent from July 2012 and up 0.2 percent from June.

Nationally, the average unemployment rate for July is 7.4 percent.

Also Thursday, the state released revised job numbers. Initially it was thought the state added 2,800 jobs in June, but the revised numbers show that 2,100 jobs were lost.
