Massacre inside Upper Merion home

A young man is in custody and has been charged with murdering his twin brother and their parents during a bloody, stabbing attack inside the family’s Upper Merion home Saturday evening, according to reports yesterday.

Investigators said they would not give details of the massacre until this morning, but a criminal complaint against Joseph McAndrew Jr., 23, of Holstein Road, obtained by KYW Newsradio, alleged that he told police his motive was “extermination.”

His victims — twin brother James McAndrew, a recent Penn State graduate, and parents Joseph and Susan McAndrew — reportedly died from multiple stab wounds and lacerations. The Delaware County Times first reported online yesterday that knives and a “samurai-style sword” were taken by authorities from the home.

The suspect was reportedly found after 7 p.m. covered in blood, standing in the driveway of the house near Gulph Mills Golf Course.

The DA’s Office said details would come today at an 11 a.m. press conference. Authorities would only confirm yesterday that McAndrew Jr. was behind bars.
