On Tuesday, his first full day in office, Mayor Marty Walsh announced some of the newest appointments to his team including the founder of a Dorchester public relations company and a former State House colleague.
Walsh, who was sworn-in as Boston’s mayor on Monday, made the announcement at City Hall while standing with the six new appointees. Four of them worked for Walsh’s campaign.
Joyce Linehan, who served as a press adviser during Walsh’s campaign and who is the founder of Ashmont Media, will serve as Walsh’s chief of policy. Linehan is also a music promoter and co-owner of an independent record label.
Also coming to work for the city is state Rep. Eugene O’Flaherty. The Chelsea democrat will become the city’s corporate counsel. When asked if his role will include helping Walsh shape his social policy through the city’s legal power, Flaherty said he will help implement Walsh’s policy vision.
“Whatever the mayor decides his policy objectives are to be, if it requires my office to function to implement that, that’s what I will do,” Flaherty said.
Walsh also picked Joe Rull as chief of operations, Alejandra St. Guillen as interim director of the Office of New Bostonians, Keith Williams as interim director the Office of Small Business and Enterprise and Trinh Nguyen, currently chief of staff at the Boston Housing Authority, as interim director of the Office of Jobs and Community Service.
Two of the appointees, O’Flaherty and Rull, do not live in Boston, but Walsh said they will have six months before they must relocate to the city.
“These people have a lot of expertise in the areas that I’m appointing them,” Walsh said.
