Transportation advocates upset about an upcoming vote to raise fares and cut service on the MBTA are planning a 24-hour vigil on the front steps of the State House.
Members from the Youth Affordabili(T) Coalition, Massachusetts Senior Action Council and T Riders Union are planning on having an overnight protest outside of the Beacon Hill building.
According to a press release, the groups are calling on Governor Patrick, House Speaker Robert DeLeo and Senate President Therese Murray to intervene before the MassDOT Board makes its final vote Wednesday.
“We are calling on State House officials to cover the MBTA’s remaining $91 million deficit to stave off devastating fare hikes and service cuts, giving time for the legislature to reconfigure transportation funding next year,” according to the press release.
