With the Christmas holiday meaning fewer travelers using public transportation, the MBTA is operating on different schedules for Christmas Eve and Christmas day.

The MBTA recently announced its holiday schedules for all portions of the transit system.

While subway, buses, the Commuter Rail and the RIDE are operating on regular weekday schedules for Christmas Eve, the Hingham ferry service will operate on a modified schedule. Inbound service will conclude at 6:55 p.m.

On Christmas day, all subway, bus, Commuter Rail and RIDE routes will operate on a Sunday schedule. That means certain bus routes and the Fairmount, Greenbush, Kingston/Plymouth and Needham Commuter Rail lines will not be running.

Also on Christmas, the Hingham and Charlestown ferry service will not be operating.

In case of service disruptions, the MBTA will post alerts and advisories on its website.
