MBTA texts tell you when your bus will arrive

If you don’t have a fancy smartphone to download all of the apps the MBTA has to offer on real-time bus and train data, then just send a simple text message and you can find out when your ride will arrive.

The MBTA announced today that they have partnered with New York-based CooCoo.com to roll out a real-time bus information service that tells you exactly when your T bus is scheduled to pull up by shooting you a text message.

A rider can use any mobile phone to make a schedule request and get an immediate text response. For example, bus riders can text “MBTA Bus [stop ID]” to 266266. The stop ID is available at www.coocoo.com/MBTA.

A message will get sent right back to the rider with arrival times.

The real-time text message pilot will be expanded to additional MBTA bus routes and commuter rail trains in the coming weeks with hopes of implementing it for all underground trains in the future, according to T officials.
