While certain stations along the MBTA’s Green Line are under construction, the transit company is encouraging people to get to where they are going by foot, rather than stand around and wait.
The Science Park/West End and Lechmere stations are currently under construction and closed down temporarily.
In the meantime, the MBTA posted signs at a few locations persuading people to “see city landmarks, parks, and history” by following walking route signs to the next stop along the Green Line.
According to the MBTA sign-posts, waiting for the shuttle bus to connect to the next stop takes 15 minutes. So does walking.
Shuttle buses depart every 5-10 minutes but travel time takes 10-20 minutes each way, according to the MBTA’s website.
The station closure stems from a project that began in April and will be finished by November.
As part of the accessibility project, the MBTA is building two new elevators.
The elevators will have multi-level access points with direct connections to station platforms.
Station platforms will also be widened, while platform canopy roofs and station stairways will be reconstructed and replaced.
Upgrades to lighting, telecommunications, electrical, fire protection, fire alarm, signage systems and station landscaping will also be made.
