The college student who went missing on Martha’s Vineyard has been found dead after a lengthy search.

Dana Dourdeville, a student at Brown University, was found dead near Penzance Point in Falmouth, less than 10 miles away from West Island Town Beach where he went missing on New Year’s Eve, WBSM reports.

Dourdeville disappeared after leaving his Marion home to go duck hunting.

On the “Search for Dana” Facebook page, Old Rochester Regional High School athletic director Bill Tilden posted an update stating that the search was over.

“Thank you the searching. We ask that you all stop searching and be safe. With very sad news that I do not want to tell everyone this way but Dana has been found and has passed,” the statement reads. “Please keep him and the family in your prayers and we promise to update everyone soon. You have all been amazing and this recovery would not have been possible without your help and prayers.”

A later update from Tilden expressed gratitude for the way friends, family, and even strangers gathered to search for Dana.

“A community came together. Maybe it was because you have a young son or daughter…maybe it was because you knew Dana…maybe it was because you lost a son or daughter or loved one and know the pain…or maybe it was just because you are a good person. Thousands of good people joined in the search..holding on to hope…caring enough to lend a hand. The thoughts and prayers of a community are with the Dourdeville family. Rest Easy Dana,” Tilden wrote.

So many people attempted to participate in the search for Dourdeville that the party had to be limited.
