MIT student found dead in dorm

An MIT freshman was found dead in his dorm room Tuesday afternoon.

Satto Tonegawa was found in his room in MacGregor House and authorities said there is no preliminary indication of foul play, the university said today.

Tonegawa is the son of MIT professor and Nobel laureate Susumu Tonegawa, according to The Tech, the student newspaper. He had not been seen for a week.

“This is a very sad situation, and the entire MIT community shares a deep sense of loss and grief,” said MIT Chancellor Eric Grimson. “Our thoughts go out to the family, friends, classmates and dormmates of Satto, as well as to the graduate resident tutors, housemasters and others in the student-life system who knew and worked with Satto.”

The university if offering support services to students and other members of the MIT community.
