Mohammad Mamdouh and Ahmed Ferhani: Two arrested in NYC synagogue bomb plot

Two men were arrested Wednesday night on charges that they were trying to buy weapons as part of a terror plot to blow up Manhattan synagogues.

NYPD officers arrested Mohammad Mamdouh and Ahmed Ferhani on a street on the West side of Manhattan, according to reports. They had just bought as many as four guns plus a hand grenade when they were arrested.

They had not selected which synagogue to attack, according to officials.

The men, both of North African descent, are not thought to be connected to al Qaeda and are believed to be lone wolves.

While the entire nation is on high alert for retaliatory attacks after the death of Osama bin Laden, these two men were arrested as part of an undercover sting operation that reportedly began long before bin Laden’s killing.
