A single mother has been arrested following her refusal to deploy to Afghanistan — due to her inability to find anyone to take care of her 10-month-old son, the AP reports.
Spc. Alexis Hutchinson, 21, is being confined to her Georgia base after her arrest Nov. 6. She says Army superiors told her she’d just have to put her infant child in foster care.
Hutchinson insists she wasn’t trying to shirk her Army duties. “This is an infant,” said Hutchinson’s mother, Angelique Hughes, who had previously agreed to care for the boy but then backed out.
