More L trains means less crowded platform at Bedford Avenue stop

The first weekday of the expanded L train service meant the platforms at the Bedford Avenue “L” train station were considerably less packed than usual.

“There’s usually way more people,” Brooklyn local Jarek Markocai observed. “Between 8 and 9 in the morning is always the worst.”

But today, at 8:50 a.m. the waiting platform seemed barren in comparison to the usual crowd.

About half the trains that arrived between 7:45 a.m. and 9:30 were still jam-packed. But on the other half, a seat could still be found. The biggest change, riders said, was the far less-crowded platforms.

“The people waiting is usually three people deep,” remarked Helder Santo, who said he had to spend a frustrating 15 minutes waiting for a train last week.

Several other morning commuters agreed that the 16 new trains added by MTA today has already made a big difference on the waiting platforms.

Commuter Rhonda Alehonso said she was pleased with the change. “I wish they’d do it to the A line, too!”
