More MBTA Green Line, Commuter Rail delays

The MBTA has again reported numerous delays this morning, one day after a smoldering cable disrupted Green Line service for thousands of rush hour commuters.

Around 9 a.m. today, T officials said there were delays on the Green Line D-branch, and earlier this morning there were major delays on the Commuter Rail to and from Newburyport due to a mechanical failure.

The Red Line has been seeing delays of up to 15 minutes, and up to 20 minutes on the Silver Line.

Around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, firefighters again responded to Arlington Station for a power failure due to a smoldering cable. It forced officials to shut down power so firefighters could extinguish the fire and make repairs.

A similar situation in that area caused Wednesday’s commuter nightmare. A spokesman for the T said that the bitter cold can weaken the cables, causing them to smolder.

Shuttle buses replaced the Green Line between Government Center and Kenmore Stations, and T officials warned passengers to use the adjacent Orange Line Stations for service between North and Copley Stations.
