Murphy’s Law: Be a regular dude

Of the 150 aspiring television personalities vying for the role of a regular dude co-hosting The Beer 30 Show on Versus Network, Graig Murphy was more average than the rest.

“I think it’s because I have a guys’ guy type of humor,” the Quincy comedian said. “I mix sports into my stand-up a lot, but nothing over the top; just kind of like a regular guy.”

Murphy, 27, and fellow Boston comedian Jimmy Dunn were among nine finalists chosen from four cities to compete in a series of challenges such as sports trivia and stand-up comedy in Dallas on Dec. 29.

Trying to fill a void left by Fox’s “Best Damn Sports Show” and Comedy Central’s “Man Show,” The Beer 30 Show’s pilot will be filmed at 6 tonight at Jerry Remy’s Sports bar & Grill near Fenway Park. The episode will air March 2.

Hosting alongside ESPN Dallas’ RJ Choppy, Murphy will be thrust into his first national TV gig.

“This is huge,” said Murphy, whose résumé includes NESN Comedy All-Stars, Dirty Water TV and a few commercials. “This is my biggest break so far.

“This is perfect, I love sports and I love humor and they both fit together in this show.”

Murphy doesn’t know much about the show’s format but he knows he won’t be totally scripted.

“I’m me, I get to say whatever I want, I’m kind of the ‘butt in, be funny’ kind of guy,” Murphy said. “It’s the ‘Man Show’ meets ‘Best Damn Spots Show,’ with skits.”
