Nassau’s 30 automobile accidents in nine hours

It was the commute from hell for Long Islanders waking up yesterday morning to face massive flooding, road closures, icy roads and traffic snarls.

Nassau County police responded to 30 calls for auto-related accidents between midnight and 9 a.m. on Tuesday alone, though none of those fender-benders were classified as serious.

The Southern direction of the Seaford Oyster Bay Expressway at Exit 44, the Eastbound entrance to the Long Island Expressway, was closed yesterday at 7:45 a.m. and a morning water main break shut down Montauk Highway in both directions on the Copiague-Lindenhurst border.

The National Weather Service had cautioned drivers to stay off the road.
