Need electronics fast? It’s in the box

It seems Best Buy has opened up its newest store inside the Forest Hills station.

A recently installed Best Buy Express kiosk offers commuters the chance to purchase electronics such as earbuds, a new iPod or even a BlackBerry.

The kiosk was installed just in time for the holiday shopping season and is one of two located on the T, officals said. The other is at Alewife station. Another kiosk is located at Logan International Airport.

“I bet they do real good business on Christmas Eve,” said John Cleary of Jamaica Plain.

While dozens of people stopped to check out the kiosk yesterday afternoon, no one made a purchase.

Cleary said he didn’t understand why someone couldn’t go to a store for the items.

“Is someone in that much of a hurry that they have to go here and buy something?” he asked.

Some of the people examining the kiosk expressed concern about the potential of being robbed after purchasing a new item. The installation of the boxes comes at a time when Transit Police have begun warning riders about cell phone robberies and urging people: “Be smart with your smartphone.”
