New bill targets landlords

Bronx Councilman Fernando Cabrera introduced a bill yesterday that would require every landlord to post a Tenants’ Bill of Rights in a conspicuous location in every apartment building citywide. Tenants would be informed of their rights as renters, such as how hot the hot water needs to be (at least 120 degrees F) and the coldest your apartment can legally be in the winter (68 degrees F during the day; 55 degrees F at night). All landlords would also have to attach the Bill of Rights to every lease and lease renewal.
