In celebration of his 40 years in the fashion industry, designer Elie Tahari will be honored with a mayoral proclamation Wednesday.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg will declare Sept. 4 Eli Tahari Day, less than a week before the renowned designer will present his spring collection at New York Fashion week.
"I am beyond blessed that I get to wake each day and go to a job that I love and am truly passionate about, and I look forward to the next 40 years," Tahari said in a statement.
Tahari began his long career while moonlighting as an electrician for a Greenwich Village boutique in the 1970s.
His newest capsule collection, Elie Tahari Edition 1974, will feature updated styles from the past four decades.
A member of Bloomberg's staff will be present at the proclamation ceremony Wednesday morning, which will hosted by comedian and fashion critic Joan Rivers.
