The New York Giants may have won Sunday’s big game, but they came back to a loss in good old New Jersey.
The Giants returned from an on-the-road win Sunday against the San Francisco ’49ers to discover that their cars had been broken into while they were on the opposite coast.
Burglars busted into the parking lot around 4 a.m. Sunday morning in East Rutherford, N.J., where players park while they are away, said Lieutenant Stephen Jones, a spokesman for the New Jersey State Police.
Jones told Metro said detectives were working to identify whether the cars were staff or players’ vehicles.
At least one was — offensive tackle James Brewer said on Twitter that this was the second time his car had been broken into inside New Jersey state limits. “Only in Jersey can someone be heartless enough to break into my car while we are in Cali making fans proud,” he Tweeted.
One car, a 1996 Chevy Caprice, was stolen.
Otherwise, five other cars were burglarized. “Some of them appear to be unlocked, “ Jones said.
The robbers apparently were able to break a lock on the gate outside the Timex Performance Center, where the athletes park across from MetLife Stadium, where they play.
It must have been a sore surprise for jet-lagged players when they touched down.
“I’m so tired that was the longest flight ever,” tweeted linebacker Marvin Austin Monday.
