Nicki Minaj wows downtown Philadelphia

Fast-rising hip hop star Nicki Minaj, whose new album was released Tuesday, arrived to blocklong crowds in Center City yesterday afternoon as hundreds jammed sidewalks along Chestnut and Sansom streets waiting for the pint-sized rapper.

She signed CDs of her new “Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded” — which fans were required to purchase in order to stand on the lines just west of Broad Street — inside the FYE store at Broad and Chestnut streets.

To honor her arrival, which occurred at about 5 p.m. to screams that could be heard from City Hall, city Sheriff Jewel Williams presented an honorary sheriff’s badge to the woman heralded by The New York Times as the greatest female rapper ever.

She was expected to leave town later this evening to continue a nationwide tour promoting her second album.
