Authorities are on the lookout for a man who viciously attacked a woman in Millburn, N.J., during a home invasion Friday.
The incident was captured on a nanny cam installed in the house, which showed the woman being punched, kicked, choked and thrown down a flight of stairs as her 3-year-old daughter sees the whole attack.
“I knew that if I started screaming, my daughter would, too, and I was afraid she would get hurt. I took it. I didn’t cry the entire time,” the woman told News 12.
The mother and daughter were watching television; her 18-month-old was asleep at the time and her husband was working when she heard noises downstairs and came face-to-face with the man, who began to beat her.
Police Capt. Michael Palardy told the Daily News that the suspect probably thought no one was home and he became violent when he realized the house wasn’t empty, which Palardy feels was uncalled for. “There was no reason for it; she would have given him anything he wanted.”
The woman suffered face and leg injuries, as well as a concussion, and was released during the weekend. The two children in the home were unharmed during the incident.
The man ran off with the woman’s wedding ring and other jewelry from the home.
The invasion has disrupted the quiet community and police are confident that the man will be brought to justice.
“Everyone’s offering to help,” Millburn Police Chief Gregory Weber told North Jersey News. “We hope to saturate the media. Hopefully, someone will recognize this fellow and turn him in.”
Millburn Police described the attacker as a black male, about 5-foot-11 and 210 pounds with a graying beard.
Crime Stoppers is offering a $5,000 reward for any tips that lead to the man’s capture.
