Boston will be the center of political and baseball attention on Wednesday, but the notoriety will come with a headache for those driving in and around the Hub.

President Barack Obama will give a health care speech Wednesday afternoon, just hours before Game 6 of the World Series begins at Fenway Park.

The two major events will require the shutdown of roadways downtown and, depending on the outcome of the game, in the Kenmore Square area. No parking will be in effect starting at 4 p.m. Wednesday in various neighborhoods of the city including the Fenway/Kenmore area, near North Station and in Brighton. Boston Police Superintendent William Evans said Monday that drivers should avoid the Faneuil Hall area Wednesday afternoon during the presidential visit, which is scheduled for just before 4 p.m.

“You can anticipate the whole area will be closed down while he’s at Quincy Market,” Evans said. “We’ll have officers out there to direct traffic around the area.”

The news of Obama’s visit on the day of a potential clinching game of the World Series has some Bostonians already getting ready to ditch the car on Wednesday.

Evans said the department has reached out to other police agencies to help during the baseball game, as they have in years past, but that security would not be compromised because the dual events take place over separate shifts.

“Obviously, the logistics and safety of the movement of motorcades is a major undertaking for us. It is going to be a long day but … it’s nothing we haven’t handled in the past and we will be up to the task,” he said.
