City Council Speaker Christine Quinn's mayoral campaign launched a blog Tuesday detailing the "hypocrisy" of her opponent, Public Advocate Bill de Blasio.
The Tale of Two de BlasiosTumblr plays on the public advocate's campaign slogan used to highlight some of the city's inequalities, "A Tale of Two Cities," which references the classic Charles Dickens novel about the French Revolution.
"Bill de Blasio likes to fashion himself a progressive, but when it comes to his stance on the issues, Bill de Blasio is rooted in pure political opportunism," Quinn campaign spokesman Mike Morey said in a statement on the blog's launch.
Quinn's campaign will post a new "tale" showcasing a de Blasio "flip-flop" every weekday until the primary election Sept. 10. The first posts discuss discrepancies in de Blasio's stance on the five-borough taxi plan, City Council member items and term limits. A video also accompanies the blog.
In addition to poking fun at de Blasio's slogan, the blog also features several unflattering photos of him that were published after his campaign requested several media outlets use an official picture.
In response to the site, a campaign spokesman for de Blasio said the city wants "change" from the current administration.
"So rather than try to defend her record of overturning term limits, cutting after-school programs and doing nothing as stop-and-frisk raged out of control, Speaker Quinn's campaign is now launching misleading attacks to distract from the fact that she has been the mayor's chief political ally for years," the spokesman said.
In the spring, de Blasio's campaign launched its own Tumblr, Quinnberg, which features pictures and videos of Quinn and Mayor Michael Bloomberg and highlights her stances on term limits, among other things.
De Blasio's campaign also launched a video Wednesday highlighting Quinn's support of Police Commissioner Ray Kelly.
The attacks from both sides come a week after two polls showed de Blasio ahead and in a statistical tie with Quinn among likely primary voters.
